night stands

These night stands have a classic look with curved fronts and drawers and a big cubby for books and snacks and miscellanea. The Cuban Mahogany used for this build was grown in Florida and came down in Hurricane Andrew in 1992, then made its way to California where it sat for almost 30 years. It was quite gnarly and fun to work with and the swirly grain patterns contrast nicely with the straightforward design. A shop-made high angle plane was used to tame the grain without tearout. The drawer bottoms are Port Orford Cedar, so when you open the drawers you get a puff of the best smelling wood there is. Handmade brass pulls.

Materials: Cuban Mahogany, Doussie, Port Orford Cedar and Brass. Finished with oil varnish and wax.
